What a difference a year makes

Donna UlisseDid someone say it’s been a whole year? Wow, the clock really does grow wings when you’re having the time of your life!

Last year at about this same time I was so green that I looked ill, a newbie in the fields of Bluegrass and awaiting my first IBMA convention EVER! I was filled to bursting, so proud of my new CD project When I Look Back. I came out of the studio knowing beyond a shadow of a doubt that it was the best music I had ever been a part of but not quite sure if my brand of Mountain Music would fit in. I am still humbled by the warm welcome, the friendly faces that smiled and said "we love your music."

Last year I didn’t know a soul. I remember walking up to the convention center door with my stomach in knots and waiting for people to ask me if I was lost. Instead, they almost took me by the hand and led me through the week. I met so many wonderful people that continue to be helpful to me and I am looking forward to seeing those faces again. I am excited to announce that I have my own band this year, the "Poor Mountain Boys" and I get the chance to perform on several different stages during the week.

I also have a booth again this year and am eager to visit with my radio buddies and new fans! Coming out the first week in January will be another self written CD called Walk This Mountain Down that I can’t wait for everyone to hear. Again my good friend and most excellent producer, Keith Sewell is at the helm of this new project. The wonderful singers who added great harmonies are also my new friends and co-writers, Jerry Salley, Curtis Wright and Claire Lynch!

I think the old saying about the grass being greener on the other side of the hill is a bit off‚Ķ‚ĶIt should be said that the grass is a little bluer and a whole lot friendlier on the other side and I’m glad I chose to see for myself!
