We’re #97!

WikioWikio has published their April list of the top 100 music blogs, and there is The Bluegrass Blog at #97! That’s not bad for a bluegrass music site when the rest of the blogs are geared toward pop, rock and rap.

Wikio is a blog and news aggregator, and a search engine for blogs developed in France in 2006. It is available online in French, Italian, Spanish, German and English.

Their rankings are automated, dynamic lists generated based on links to individual blogs within news articles and RSS feeds.

Thanks to all our readers – and those other blogs and news services who link to us – for helping us make the top 100!

    What is a blog?

For those unfamiliar with the term, the word "blog" is a contraction of its original name, "web log." A blog might best be described as a web-based publication consisting of a number of posts, with new posts added on a regular basis. Each post is generally a brief article written by the author(s) of...

    Blogging in the news.

U.S. News and World Report has an interesting article online from their current issue. While focused mainly on corporate blogs, we felt some of the content might be of interest to the bluegrass community. Here are a couple of excerpts. While discussing who reads blogs. ~ Only 27 percent of Internet...

Blogging in the news – update

After looking over some of the old posts I just mentioned in the last post, I thought it would be interesting to bring you an update of our first news post. It was July of 2005 and we reported to you about the prevalence of blogs in the online world. See that post here. At that time 27 percent of...

    Del McCoury on NPR

John posted the other day that Del McCoury and band would be making an appearance on NPR's Talk of the Nation. In that post he mentioned that the show's audio would be made available online. The story is now online and does include a link for listening to the audio of the in studio performance. You...

Would You Pay To See Steve Martin Play The Banjo?

That's the question PollStar is asking. PollStar is a major hub for finding concert dates of your favorite artists. Searching for an artist, such as Rhonda Vincent, will present you with a complete list of concert dates, including more info about the venue or date, and in some cases, the option to...

    Randy Kohrs in USA TODAY

The Listen Up feature in the April 17th edition of USA TODAY lists the author's top ten music picks for the week. We don't often see straight up bluegrass featured in such lists, so it's nice to see Randy Kohrs on the list this time around. Randy came in at #10 on the list with the song Shallow Grave....

    Viewpoint – a recurring feature

From time to time, we will include posts which do not offer news or specific information, but instead feature commentary or opinion on a topic related to the theme of The Bluegrass Blog: bluegrass music, artists, events and fans - or the music business that supports us all. These Viewpoint posts...

    Vote for Punch on NPR

Punch, the debut CD from Chris Thile's Punch Brothers, is among the nominees in the Best CDs of 2008 listener poll at NPR.com. The band is encouraging their many fans and friends to register at the NPR Community site, and cast a vote for them in the poll. Punch is certainly high on my list of 2008...

    Banjo Santa

The New York Times cityroom blog recently featured a story about a banjo playing Santa from New York. The story is complete with a short video showcasing Santa's banjo skills, and asking him a few questions about the gig. Warren McKnight lives in Riverhead (on Long Island), N.Y. and works as an automotive...

Comments and Contributions on The Bluegrass Blog

Following up on the recent post from Brad Harper about file trading of live show audio, in response to one by Megan Lynch, I want to add a few words about comments, and why we typically do not allow them on The Bluegrass Blog. I also want to explain a bit more about outside Guest Contributions, which...
