Welcome Benjamin Olsson!

Christoffer Olsson with his newborn son, BenjaminChristoffer Olsson, guitarist and lead singer with G2, is celebrating the birth of his son, Benjamin, born earlier this month.

G2 banjo picker Jens Koch shared this photo of Christoffer and Benjamin, along with some band news from their home in Sweden. He says that the guys are about to start recording a new album.

“The cold winter slows things down a bit here, but we’re busy working on new material and it looks like all the songs except one will be originals, about 70% written within the band. This time we have some co-writes with people outside of the band and some originals from other people. I think this new CD will have a tougher and a bit more aggressive attitude, and the songs are a bit more varied.”

Jens says that will be tracking at Cosmos Studios in Stockholm, and hoping to have Brent Truitt help with the final mixing.

He says that the new project should be released in June ‘09.

Congratulations to Christoffer and Belinda from The Bluegrass Blog!

G2, our favorite young Swedish bluegrass outfit, will also be heading west to the US later this month. They will perform at the Bluegrass Legends Concert Series in Chicago on 9/26, and then on the Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour on the 28th. After that, it's on to IBMA in Nashville where they will be...

G2 back to the US in ‘09

Swedish bluegrass heartthrobs, G2, are making plans to spend substantial parts of the next few years touring in the US. In 2009, they will be here July through September performing at festivals and music events, based near Nashville. They want to take advantage of the momentum built from a shorter...

G2 – Where The Tall Grass Grows

One band that I did get to see at IBMA last month that really impressed me was G2, a young quintet from Sweden who won the 2007 European Band of the Year Award, announced at the EBMA European World of Bluegrass festival in May. Brance and I caught one of their after hours showcase performances, and...

G2 – young Swedish band to open for Doyle Lawson

You may not be familiar with a band named G2, but we suspect that you may be before long. They are five young Swedish blugrass musicians, who teamed up in October 2005 with a plan to form a new, contemporary bluegrass band. The name came with their recognition that they were a part of the second generation...

    Wednesday lunch showcases

For a change, I was able to stay for all three main stage acts at Wednesday's (9/30) lunchtime showcase, and I saw some very strong performances. Darren Beachley & Legends Of The Potomac were up first. That may sound like a fairly grandiose name for a new band, but with former Seldom Sceners Tom...

    Lovell Sisters… busy, busy, busy

I had a chance to speak today with Jessica Lovell, the fiddling third of the sibling trio, The Lovell Sisters. She was making final preparations to leave for their European tour, which begins this Sunday (8/31) in Norway. We talked in some detail about what the three young ladies have been doing for...

    Jim Lauderdale in Sweden

Shortly after we posted last week about the interview with Jim Lauderdale on CMT.com, we heard from our friend, Jens Koch, who plays banjo with the young Swedish bluegrass group, G2. Jens wanted to let us know that Jim would be appearing at CountryGala this weekend (2/17-18) at Vara Konserthus in...

Why banjo and extreme sports don’t mix

Here's a cautionary tale for bluegrass musicians who also like to try their hand at risky extreme sports. It comes from Jens Koch, the superb young banjo player with Swedish bluegrass group, G2. Three years ago - before G2 caught the ears of fans and critics alike at EBMA and IBMA - he broke his...

Gold Heart – My Sisters And Me
