Unsigned Bluegrass on SiriusXM

Wichita Rutherford - The Grand Old Time MachineIf you’re in an unsigned bluegrass band and want to have your music played on SIRIUS/XM, here’s your chance. Our favorite Mayor (of Bluegrass), Wichita Rutherford, has pledged to play music from one or two unsigned bands on his show every week for at least the next two months.

Then on May 8th and 9th, he’ll be devoting his entire show to unsigned bands/artists. He’s calling it, Wichita Rutherford Presents: The Best Unsigned Bands in Bluegrass.

If you want him to play your tunes, just send him an mp3 via email, or drop a CD in the mail. He’s playing them in the order he receives them, and compiling the best stuff into the special May 8 and 9 show. Your songs must be submitted no later than May 1, 2009 for inclusion.

Visit his website for email and mailing address, and more info.

Wichita Rutherford made an appearance on CMT over the weekend. He was featured on CMT Insider's "The Year in a Nutshell," along with several other comedians. They asked Wichita some questions and during his responses he talked about some famous people. I predicted that Wichita would run "8 silly contests...

    Bush on the Time Machine

Wichita Rutherford has invited Sam Bush to co-host his Sirius radio show, The Grand Old Time Machine, this week. Wichita Rutherford and Ricky Skaggs

Our buddy Wichita Rutherford is perceived by many as a funny man, and rightly so. But the truth is, he takes at least one thing seriously, bluegrass music! He has a lot of fun for sure, but he truly respects the music and the people who create it. His show this week should make that abundantly clear. His...

Mayor of Bluegrass – Election Update 12/13/2006

If you've been following this hotly contested election you'll know that we've been trying to obtain a photo of the elusive Mr. Trent Dobbins for some time now. As we told you in the last update, Mr. Dobbins is an importer of organic salmon living in Beverly Hills. This morning one of our operatives...

Cherryholmes Receive Key to the City of Bluegrass

Wichita Rutherford, the duly elected Mayor of Bluegrass, presented the family band, Cherryholmes, with the key to the "City of Bluegrass" last week. This is the first time the key has been awarded in bluegrass history and Wichita was understandably excited at the prospect of presenting such an honor....

Alison Krauss & Robert Plant will be performing a concert in Chattanooga, TN on Wednesday of this week, and our good friend Wichita Rutherford is giving away four tickets to the show. Wichita Rutherford impersonates Ricky Skaggs

I posted last week about a video that our pal Wichita Rutherford put up as a podcast (and in his blog). The video was recorded for and played at IBMA last month. In the video Wichita is playing cards with the guys from Three Ring Circle and tries out his Ricky Skaggs impression on them. It was bit to...

    Wichita on your TomTom

If you are a user of the portable GPS devices known as TomTom, and a bluegrass fan, you may be interested in this. Free ice cream from Wichita

With Wichita Rutherford you never really know what to expect next and I'll admit I didn't see this coming. I guess I should have, I know how much he likes ice cream!
