Buncombe Turnpike - still kicking at CMT.com

CMT Music City MadnessWe’ve posted many times this past few weeks with updates about CMT.com’s online video competition for unsigned artists, with the winner being flown to Nashville to record a segment for CMT.com’s Studio 330 Sessions.

Our focus has been on the bluegrass or bluegrass-related entries, and we are delighted to report that Buncombe Turnpike, with the sole bluegrass video in the 3rd round of 16 competitors, has made it through to the the 4th round of eight.

Mimicking the NCAA basketball tournaments, CMT’s Music City Madness has paired videos in head-to-head match ups in each round, starting with 64 entries selected from those submitted for this contest.

This 4th round, which will select the Final Four, allows online voting until March 19. If you would like to see a bluegrass band in the semi-finals, head over to CMT’s Music City Madness site and cast your vote.

Bluegrass videos advance in CMT competition

CMT Music City MadnessWe posted last month with news about a number of bluegrass, or bluegrass-related videos that were selected to compete in CMT.com’s Music City Madness online video contest.

The first round of voting has concluded, and two of the four we mentioned have moved into the next round.

Buncombe Turnpike’s Black Sedan and Cliff Wagner’s Old Fire are still in the hunt. Black Sedan is the only straight up bluegrass video left in the contest, while Old Fire is more tinged with old time and bluegrass influences.

This contest is run in a head-to-head bracket format, designed to mimic the NCAA Basketball Tournament. In each round, videos are paired up against one another, with the leading vote getter in each pair moving into the next round.

Today (3/5) is the last day to vote in this round of competition, so make your way over to the Music City Madness site if you want to see a bluegrass video stick around.

Bluegrass entries in CMT video contest

CMT Music City MadnessWe posted back in November when CMT announced their Music City Madness video contest, timed and structured to coincide with the annual NCAA basketball tournaments. We mentioned at the time that CMT was hoping to get some bluegrass entries, and it looks like a couple have made it into the initial round of 64.

Buncombe Turnpike, a bluegrass band from western North Carolina, submitted a video for their song, Black Sedan. The video is nicely produced, and represents bluegrass well.

Our buddy Brad Davis has also been selected for his video of I’m Not Through Loving You Yet - directed by our own Brance Gillihan!

Cliff Wagner features old time banjo and dobro in his video for Old Fire, and Shady Grove does a credible grassy version of Rye Hill.

The voting is done in a bracket format, with each round involving match ups between pairs of videos. Whichever videos get the most votes in their pairings during round 1 will move on to the next in a single elimination tournament, just like in the NCAA. Voting in round 1 runs through February 26.

Visit the CMT Music City Madness Watch and Vote page to cast your ballot. Bumcombe Turnpike’s bracket is bottom left, Brad Davis’ near the bottom right. If any other bluegrass (or bluegrassy) videos are in the competition, please be sure to let us know.
