Steve Martin to make Opry debut

Steve MartinHe’s “played” a lot of stages, but on May 30, 2009, Steve Martin will set foot on the stage at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry to perform songs from his new CD, The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo.

This will be Martin’s debut appearance on the Opry stage. After a lifetime of stand up comedy, Martin is beginning to be taken seriously as a musician.

“The Opry audience will find out when Steve picks, that he’s a musician disguised as an actor,” said [John] McEuen

Reuters Story

Martin will be joined on the Opry stage by John McEuen, Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Stuart Duncan, Tim O’Brien, and more.

Martin will not only play, but he will also sing. He plans to sing.

Martin will sing his song “Late for School”– the second time he will have sung in public since the 1978 pop culture phenomenon King Tut, the first being on an appearance on Saturday Night Live earlier this year, when he hosted for the fifteenth time.

Actually, Steve sang on stage, in public, in front of 100’s of people at the Mountain Song Festival in Brevard, NC, hosted by the Steep Canyon Rangers in September, 2008.
