Sawmill Road calls it quits

Sawmill Road, the mega-talented west coast bluegrass outfit has hit the end of the road.

Made up of five seasoned pros, the group released a pair of excellent recordings (Sawmill Road and Fire On The Kettle) while they were active. The band featured Steve Spurgin on bass, Mark Miracle on mandolin, Dick Brown on banjo, Doug Bartlett on fiddle and Charlie Edsall on guitar.

We heard earlier today from Miracle with this news:

“The band received an email from Steve Spurgin informing us that he wanted to pursue other musical interests. I wish him and the rest of the band the best of luck, and hope that I won’t spend too much time as an idle musician. AZ isn’t exactly a hotbed of bluegrass activity and so a pursuit of bands who might need someone such as myself might prove difficult, and more so if I choose to start something up myself.

Sawmill Road was most definitely a positive experience and I thank the boys for it.”

Mark also runs a business, Grassware, which designs, manufactures and markets a variety of bluegrass-themed clothing items.

Here are a couple of videos of Sawmill Road from February of this year.
