Roger Handy with Southern Depot

Southern Depot - Little Run Down CabinDoes the name Roger Handy ring a bell? It will if you have been a fan of The Lost and Found since their inception 35 years ago.

Roger was the band’s original guitarist, and performed and recorded with them for several years before leaving the group in the late 1970s. He’s been away from music since that time but is back now with a new band, Southern Depot, and a sound sure to thrill fans of what was billed as contemporary bluegrass in the ’70s.

Fellow founding Lost and Founder Allen Mills is happy to welcome his former band mate back to bluegrass.

“I always enjoyed singing with Roger. He sang lead in keys that were easy for me to sing tenor to, and Gene Parker to sing the baritone part. He has always had a good ear for a song. Occasionally, we still get together and sing some of the old songs.

It’s great to see Roger performing and recording again with his group.”

Southern Depot has released its debut CD, Little Run Down Cabin, featuring Billy Weaver on banjo, Harold East on dobro and Charlie Robertson on bass with Handy on guitar and vocals. Roger Martin has since been added on mandolin.

The songs and arrangements bring to mind the Country Gentlemen from the 1970s, and Handy’s voice is clear and strong – extremely well-suited to the material they have chosen.

Audio samples from the new CD can be found on CD Baby.
