Yes, they do get to choose their own cover tunes. And they actually know the artists they will cover several weeks in advance. As for Cliff not mentioning the show on his own sites, he's not allowed. The show will not allow the artists themselves to shill for votes. They even monitor family members sites to make sure they aren't trying to get around the rules.
