NEA Award for Mike Seeger

Mike SeegerMike Seeger has been named as the recipient of the 2009 Bess Lomax Hawes Award from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Seeger has spent most of his life performing and recording traditional American string music, starting with a memorable stint with The New Lost City Ramblers in the late 1950s. He has dedicated many years to collecting and preserving folk songs and the artists who performed them.

He shares his famous last name with half-brother Pete Seeger and sister Peggy Seeger, all celebrated as giants in the folk and old time music worlds.

The Bess Lomax Hawes Award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to the preservation and awareness of cultural heritage.

Congratulations to Mike Seeger for another in his long list of distinguishments.
