Mountain Heart in the Swiss Alps

Mountain Heart is just finishing up a brief tour in Switzerland, and have sent along a few “What I did on my Alpine vacation” photos for all us to enjoy.

Jim VanCleve has promised us another photo essay before they head home this weekend.

Josh Shilling and Jason Moore flying to Europe - perhaps Josh is having more fun than Jason?     Josh and Jason display the staples of any road musician. I'm sure that is a soda Jason is enjoying.     Mountain Heart heading for a show in Zurich

So…MH now has a new lead singer, a new lead guitar player, and now and brand new mandolin player. All in the last year.

That’s half of the band and the two best singers gone. I hate to see Adam leave, but I certainly understand with their radical new sound. Things change…..life moves on.

Adam has been playing some recent shows with Peter Rowan and Tony Rice. Mark Schatz has also been doing bass duties for that quartet. They haven’t been the same since Bryn Davies and Sharon Gilchrist left either.

    Patriotism isn’t politics…

Friends: In response to the person from the Netherlands to "keep American politics out of the IBMA", it appears he is defining "politics" as ANY indication or mention of our nationality, then proceeds to launch a critique of current administration policies. The performing of traditional patriotic...

    Earl Scruggs Concert

Earl Scruggs will be in his home town of Shelby, N.C. on June 19th for a Homecoming Concert.  The opening act will be the Darin and Brooke Aldridge Quintet.  In review of their new new CD, BU said they "set a new standard for excellence in bluegrass gospel." The legend of all bluegrass...

New to this Blog…saying howdy, y’all!

Hi there from Washington State! I manage a hillbilly jamgrass band called Deadwood Revival.  We're "out of the box", but bluegrass fans seem to love us anyway.  Nice. I have a question ....  how are the smaller Bluegrass Festivals faring around the country??  We've had...

    Goodbye Butch

I first met Butch in Las Vegas around 1979.  We were both in the gaming business.   Butch was a crap dealer at the MGM Grand, and I worked for the casino surveillance department of the Hilton.   I had just transplanted from Ashland, PA and wanted to find a place to play and learn...

    Rhonda Vincent-Oprah

I just read where Rhonda Vincent was recently featured in Oprah Winfrey's magazine.  WHAT?!?  WHY?!?  Oprah has nothing to do with Bluegrass.  I heard Oprah say that when she read in the Bible that God is a jealous God, she couldn't support him, or words to that effect.  She...

    Harry Lane

Harry made a banjo neck for me in the early 70's.  At that time he was just beginning to make banjos and I remember only a few at his place.  Our group, "The Cumberlands" played several times a year at "The Boar's Head" in Savannah and we became friends with Harry and his brother, Tom. ...

    Internet radio

Up to this point, the discussion of the royalty situation on this blog has focused on Bluegrass music, which make sense, this is The Bluegrass Blog. May I suggest that the problem is not just ours. There are many other styles of music that are under represented in the mass media. There other 24...

    New Guy In Town-Mt Heart

Just heard the new addition to Mt Heart on the Opry tonight!  Can't say anything except great!  Josh Stillings (I think was his name) received a standing "O" for his first time out with Mt Heart!  Even my 14 year old daughter who thanks Bluegrass should only be sung in the shower stopped...

    IBMA debate

Friends:   It enrages me that there would be any question as to having patriotic music at IBMA. Sure, there are people there from other countries, but we are the HOST country! If any attendees are offended(as if we did something obscene), at us honoring our own history and military, they...

    The Finale

Because of the technical issues, I haven't been able to blog as we've gone along tonight, but, I promise, I will either late tonight or tomorrow do a complete rundown.  I have to tell y'all, Brance and John, who keep this Bluegrass Blog going, are two of the nicest people in Bluegrass music. ...
