We devoted a lot of space here on The Bluegrass Blog last summer when The Wright Kids, a bluegrass trio of pre teen siblings from Rocky Mount, VA, made it to the televised finals of America’s Got Talent.

Though they were voted into the Top Ten finalists, they lost in that ultimate round. The Kids impressed a lot of people along the way, including show host Jerry Springer, who promised them that he would come to see one of their shows at Pop’s Ice Cream and Soda Bar in Roanoke after the show concluded.

Well, this past Friday evening, he made good on that promise. Word had gotten out to the local media, so Springer got to the show early so that he could have some time with the kids before they started to perform.

This performance marked Baruch’s 1st time playing banjo. It was a real hit. Before they performed, Baruch asked Jerry if he noticed anything different on their instrument stands. When Jerry saw the banjo, Baruch told Jerry it would be his first time playing banjo for an audience …… no pressure.

Jerry genuinely enjoys the kids’ music and commented their harmony “is so pure” …. what a compliment!

Sage ….. ”Right when Jerry saw us, he told us how much he liked our CD … especially God’s Coloring Book.  So we managed to fit it into our set, unrehearsed.”

Levi …… “I thought it was really really cool.  When Jerry walked in, I was thinking, ”Oh WOW! … he’s here!!”

Baruch …. “When I saw Jerry, it was really exciting.  It was neat seeing everyone’s reaction.  I never thought he would fulfill his promise, but he did!”

Sage ….. “It was so exciting to see somebody we’ve had a lot of fun with again.  I felt like we were in Hollywood with all the cameras and Uncle Jerry around!”
