Advertiser FAQ
Return to the Advertising Rates page
Here are some answers to the most common questions we receive from new and potential advertisers on The Bluegrass Blog.
Q: How many ads will display on a page?
A: Each time our main page is refreshed, it will display six of the large ads that appear in the left hand side bar, and 20 of the small horizontal banners that appear at the bottom of each article.
Q: How often will my ad appear?
A: It depends on which ad zone you choose, and whether you choose regular or bold rotation.
The six sidebar ad zones are broken into five rotations slots. Only five rotational spaces will exist for each of these ad zones, with an advertiser able to select one, or several zones, depending on availability. Each rotation will receive 20% of all page views on The Bluegrass Blog.
A horizontal banner will be randomly selected from our ad inventory and displayed in between every post on the page. There will be 200 rotational spaces created for these footer ads so with 20 displayed on each page, you will still have your banner displayed on at least 10% of all page views.
If a post is viewed in its own window (by clicking on the post title - or if someone arrives at The Bluegrass Blog by clicking through from search results that return one of our posts) one horizontal footer ad will display along with all six sidebar ads.
Q: I see some ads appearing every time I refresh a page. Why aren’t they rotating?
A: Until our ad inventory is full, both footer and sidebar ads will display at higher than their guaranteed frequency, a strong incentive to become an early advertiser on The Bluegrass Blog.
Q: Am I limited to a single banner or sidebar ad?
A: No, multiple ads are allowed. For advertisers on an annual contract, we will create a single ad for you at no charge, with a $15 set up fee for any additional ads we create. There is no cost to include additional ads if you provide the images.
You won’t receive more actual ad views with multiple banners, but you can get a more varied message out to our readers. When your ad is selected at random to appear in it’s ad space, the ad delivery software will also randomly select one of your ads to be seen there.
Until we reach our full inventory, it is possible that multiple banners will be seen more frequently.
Q: What are the dimensions of the images for the ads?
A: A sidebar ad can consist of image and text, or an image alone. This sidebar ad space is 160 X 300 pixels.
The footer ads are images only, and are 535 X 30 pixels in size, with a total file size no greater than 8K.
File size for sidebar images must be no more than 16K.
Q: Are animated image ads allowed?
A: Yes, but… Animated .gif files are acceptable, but we don’t allow ones that flash or animate so rapidly as to be obnoxious. Most blog readers seem to be annoyed by these sorts of ads, and they may reflect poorly on both the individual advertiser and The Bluegrass Blog, so we do not permit their use.
Q: Can I change my ad images or text copy?
A: Yes. We will be happy to change your banner or sidebar ad image or text as you see fit. More than one change per month, however, will be subject to a $15 admin fee.
Q: Are ads with no relation to bluegrass music allowed?
A: They are not expressly forbidden, and will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us if you have an idea for an ad that might be of interest to our readers, despite it not being bluegrass related.
We will not accept any advertising for political or partisan-themed material, and absolutely no adult-oriented advertising will be permitted.
