European Bluegrass Music Association gets new Chairperson
Richard Hurst accepted the position of Chairperson of the European Bluegrass Music Association [EBMA] in May of 2008. After serving in that capacity for 20 months, Hurst has resigned. Chairing an organization like that is a full time job in and of itself, but Hurst is a busy man. He works for the National Museums Northern Ireland, organizing the Annual Appalachian & Bluegrass Music Festival, which takes place each year on the grounds of the Ulster American Folk Park near Omagh in Northern Ireland. He also cited family commitments as another contributing factor in his decision.
At Richard’s recommendation, “the remaining board members unanimously elected Angelika Torrie as their chairperson.”
You can read his resignation letter, along with a transcribed comment from a board meeting held via Skype, on the European Bluegrass Blog.
If you’re a bluegrass fan or musician who lives in, or regularly visits, the UK and Europe, we encourage you to support the efforts of the EBMA to promote bluegrass music.
