David McLaughlin hearing device – success!

We just heard from Claire Lynch that her effort to raise $7,000 for a new hearing aid for former Johnson Mountain Boy David McLaughlin has succeeded. David lost his hearing quite suddenly back in late 2006 and has had to lay down his instruments as a result.

When Claire discovered that David had found a new device that could restore his hearing, she went into overdrive to help find the funds necessary to purchase the unit.

Here is Claire’s note…

Claire Lynch“I can’t believe it’s been only two weeks since we began to raise money to help David McLaughlin purchase some hearing devices which would give him back his music. This has been one of the sweetest experiences I’ve ever had. I want to thank everyone who pitched in and showed your love. Today we reached our $7,000.00 goal. So you guys out there can stop sending money! We’re done!

I’d like to say a special thanks to my friend and co-hort Jennifer Hardiman who jumped on the band wagon with me and helped me organize what seemed almost like an effortless task. We both agreed, this was a ‘God thing!’ Also, let me thank Christian Wenner and the members of Mandolin Cafe and UMGF who offered their generous support. Thanks to the John Lawless and The Bluegrass Blog for helping us announce the project. Word traveled fast!

What an amazing journey! David, you have a lot of people out there who love you and think highly of you. CONGRATULATIONS! It’s been a privilege beyond compare.”
