IBMA: Red Carpet video - episode 1

We know a lot of our readers didn’t have the opportunity to attend this year’s IBMA Awards Show in Nashville. We blogged it live, it was broadcast on XM Satellite Radio, but there was no television coverage of the event. If you weren’t there, you didn’t get to see all the bluegrass stars shining in their best dress for bluegrass’ biggest night.

A few weeks before the event, Katy Daley, of BluegrassCountry.org, approached us with the idea of doing a Red Carpet event and offering the video footage here on The Bluegrass Blog. We loved the idea, and so did all the bluegrass artists who stopped by our red carpet during the pre-show reception.

Each day this week we’ll be publishing another episode of the Red Carpet videos. Here’s the first installment…

IBMA: Alan Munde

While walking around the trade show floor at IBMA last week, I ran across Alan Munde and stopped to chat for a moment. Here’s the video. This one is short, runtime is 48 seconds.

IBMA: Kel Audio Interview

Here’s another video interview from IBMA. This time John interviews Kelly Dueck of Kel Audio. Kelly is a banjo player turned microphone manufacturer. His microphones are in use both on stage and in the studio throughout the bluegrass world.

I’ve got several Kel Audio microphones in my own studio and have used them on several projects now. These mics are affordable and clean sounding. Grasstowne is using them on stage, which Kelly discusses in the video.

The interview gives you some background on Kelly himself, a quick overview of his mics, and his perspective on being at IBMA for the first time as a vendor. Run time is 3:17.

Cherryholmes interview

On Wednesday of IBMA week, John and I took the camera and hit the trade show floor looking for some interesting interviews. The first one we’ve got to share with you is the Cherryholmes family.

The interview was timely as the band’s new CD, Cherryholmes III, was released on Tuesday.

The interview is spent discussing this new release and the band’s outlook for the coming year.

Dailey & Vincent on Broadway

Here’s the Dailey & Vincent video we’ve been promising. This was shot downtown Nashville on Broadway. You’ll see the location when you watch the video.

The video was shot the night before the Awards show. It includes some fun stuff, some interview with the boys, a message to their fans, and a live performance of Cumberland River.

Roger Brown’s Keynote Condensed

Yesterday evening Roger Brown, President of the Berklee College of Music, gave a very timely and well thought out Keynote address to kick off the IBMA World of Bluegrass for 2008.

We caught up with Roger afterwards and he and John discussed the subject of his speech, with Roger serving up a condensed version of the speech for our interview.

The file is 12 minutes in length, but well worth the time it’ll take you to watch it.

Read our July 2008 interview with Roger, which he references in the video.
