Bluegrass too depressing to be a state song?

Bluegrass too depressing…not anymore. I would like to take this opportunity to suggest Jocelyn Gold’s (Gold Heart) song Take Me Back to Virginia as the
Virginia state song. The song has a great bluegrass slow-driving feel and is in no way depressing. Take Me Back to Virginia has not been released yet but is on a demo and is fast becoming this young band’s signature song.

If you were at this past IBMA convention you probably heard it at an after hours showcase or being jammed everywhere. The song also helped Gold Heart earn 14th place at the 2007 Galax Fiddler’s Convention and 2nd place at the 2007 Virginia Folk Music Association bluegrass band competition. They also took 1st place at the 2007 Berlin Fiddler’s Convention, but Maryland may not appreciate a song about Virginia as a good representation of their state. At any rate, Take Me Back to Virginia should be seriously considered as the Virginia state song. After all, it’s a lively tune, will make you tap your foot, was written by a resident of Virginia, and is pure bluegrass.
