Bring your banjo to this hands-on workshop to learn practical techniques to raise your skills to the next level.

For beginner to intermediate level players.

The session is open to all students and is ideal for those who have played for six months or longer.

Topics include:

Fingerboard roadmap – using movable chord shapes and patterns for backup, leads and improvisation; applying basic theory to the fingerboard.

Jamming skills – playing successfully with other musicians- jamming fundamentals, building confidence, backup, taking breaks.

Overcoming common problems – timing; building speed, clarity and drive; backup.

Guided jam for the last half hour with tips on using the topics covered. This is a great opportunity for both first-timers and those with some experience to jam in a supportive environment. The session is open to all students and is ideal for those who have played for six months or longer.

Bob Altschuler has taught bluegrass banjo for over 30 years and has been head of the bluegrass beginner track at Banjo Camp North in Massachusetts (mugwumps.com) since 2003. Mel Bay’s web magazine Banjo Sessions (banjosessions.com) features his instructional articles, and his playing has been heard on radio and television commercials. Bob records and performs with Dyer Switch (dyerswitch.com).
