Belfast celebrates Nashville’s 200th birthday
How many Bluegrass Blog readers know that Belfast in Northern Ireland is the sister city to Nashville, TN?
Well it is, and Belfast celebrated this 200th birthday year for Nashville with a concert on June 29, reported July 4 on The Bluegrass Ireland Blog. A number of bands and artists from Northern Ireland performed, including Eilidh Patterson and the Bluegrass Broken String Band.
Irish News TV was on the scene, and filed a report from the concert, which was held just prior to the Belfast Maritime Festival. Nashville mayor Bill Purcell was in attendance, and he speaks to INTV about the important part that Irish music and culture played in the development of American country and bluegrass music.
