Audiophile award?
During an IBMA week conversation with John Eberle of Americana Mastering, an excellent suggestion for a new IBMA Award category came up.
John remarked that, given the degree to which bluegrass artists and fans appreciate the subtleties of acoustic instrument tonality, it might be appropriate to consider an award for the best audio recording of the year.
It struck me as a marvelous idea as well, though I suspect that the IBMA Awards Committee may not immediately warm to the notion of new awards.


As each award is announced, we will post the name of the recipient, along with the winner of our reader-driven Bluegrass Blog Awards Poll. It will be fun to see how many coincide.

Being an engineer, I think that this is an awesome idea! Of course, chances are we’ll be giving it to Gary Paczosa or Bil Vorndick every year, but what’s wrong with that?! At least it’ll get people realizing the importance of sound quality again in a industry that is starting to rely on lower quality MP3s for income…
