Dwight Moody and Tom Warlick have announced that Alana Flowers will join them as a member of the WBT Briarhoppers.

The band has been active since 1934, when they were formed to help promote a show on WBT radio in Charlotte, NC, and serve as an enduring legacy throughout the Piedmont area of the Tar Heel state.

Alana, at 20 years of age, is a junior at Belmont Abbey, where she studies political scienece when she isn’t also playing banjo with her kinfolk in The Flowers Family Band. She also has an online show on WBT.com, which grew from her early on-air appearances on the Keith Larson show when she started interning at the station.

Flowers is tickled silly to have this opportunity.

“It’s really hard to believe that the legendary Briarhoppers would ask me to become a part of the band. I’m very big on WBT heritage and history, and to become a member means more to me than I can express; I am very honored that they would consider me. What a dream!

I would have never thought that my life would go in the direction it’s going, but it’s really super fun, and I wouldn’t want to be anyone else! My motto is ‘Keep on the Sunny Side’, so I’m determined to enjoy every minute of life and this incredible opportunity.”

The Briarhoppers point out that Alana is their first female member in almost 70 years, and they are equally delighted to have her climb aboard the train.

Other new members of the group are expected to be announced later this spring.
